My Vacuum Lost the Self Propelled Motion

TriStar Vacuum Dilemma
| My Vacuum Lost the Self Propelled Motion
We have a Kenmore canister vacuum. Our warranty ran out in April and I am having a difficult time getting anyone to answer a question for me without them saying that I have to bring it in to get it serviced. The problem is that there is supposed to be a self propelled forward thrust when vacuuming. Our vacuum not only seems to have lost the forward propelling motion but it doesn't pick up the dirt either. Is there something I should be looking for to fix this problem? What would I be looking for if I were to take it apart? Thanks for your response, Joie

| Dear Joie,
Check the belt in the power head. It most likely broke or stretched out and you need a new one.

| Burning Smell
I smell a burning smell coming from my vacuum cleaner and the roller doesn't seem to be spinning- what the heck is it??

| You need to replace the belt. What type of vacuum cleaner do you have?

| Viking 500 Handwheel Situation
Hi, my mother has a Viking 500. The handwheel will not turn so the needle will not move. When I look at the bobbin holder it looks like it is not in correctly and the plastic plate covering the bobbin will not sit down completely. The bobbin holder appears to be rotated 90 degrees(ccw),could this be? If so, how do I get the holder out? Is this something I can do or should I bring it in and have it done?Thank you,Stan

| Dear Stan,
Just squeeze the two little wings on the bobbin case and take it out.

| TriStar Vacuum Dilemma
My TriStar vacuum no longer sucks up material, instead it is blowing the dirt and dust back out. What woudl make it do that? This is a canister model and the only attachment that does that is the large roller. Thank you, Stephanie

| Dear Stephanie,
Between the roller and the hose there is a clog. More than likely there is a clog in the neck of the nozzle. Take it off of the wands and remove the clog.
