This is my Mom's old Consew 118 machine, but I can't find her welting foot.
I am sewing a 1/8" vinyl welting between two layers of vinyl fabric. You
have lots of choices on your website. I suppose I should have an inner and
outer foot.
What do you recommend?

I was sewing broken in jeans that is what it sewed when I checked it out before I bought it and it sewed fine then I tried to sew with it it has been that way since I brought it home and unable to sew anything thanks
The needle keeps hitting the throat plate even with a new needle and a new throat plate I haven’t sew anything since I got it but when I picked it up it worked great now the needle is off and hitting the plate thanks

| What are you trying to sew? What kind of material ?

I do beleave the trouble is in the needle clamp
Its not set right. Take it apart and make sure that nothing is jammed in there like part of a old needle
Make sure the needle screw is going in straight

Hello,
I hope you can help me! I have a pfaff 545 sewing machine and I need a couple parts. Underneath, there is an arm piece that broke, and when it broke it shot a spring out and I couldn’t find it. The arm is part #91-009339-15, the spring #91-009341-05. I was told by another place these parts were discontinued, and they had no idea if there was an updated part. I am attaching the page from my parts book that shows these numbers. I have the style on the bottom. If I need to change out the style of parts to something else that is available please let me know. I would hate to have such a nice machine be useless over a small part! Thanks!

I recently acquired a Singer 112w116, head only, that I’m trying to get on a table. I’ve been looking to find a source for the female hinges that receive the pins coming off the puller mechanism (see pics). Lower priority, but I also need the puller feed cover plate, bobbin winder, and knee lift. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pics attached for reference. Mine is the silver one.

the motor you had was a clutch motor. It keeps running all the time and when you step down on the petal the clutch plate goes against the running motor and make the machine go faster. The new servo motors and completely off until you step on the petal. Have a lot more control and use less electrify. The also have a range control so you can make the top speed 300 or 600 or as fast as you want.

Older machines come with clutch motors. 1750RPMs or 3450RPMs. You can make them slower by using a smaller pulley on the Motor. If it still to fast you may want to buy a servo motor for your power stand. New servo motors you have great control and you can range the motor to go a max 300spm 1000spm 3000spm. 95 % of all new machines use servo now.

| The 95-1 is over 70 years old and the leather belt inside is a timing belt and no longer made.
We stop having that part over 10 years a go. You will have to look for a newer version of the machine that has gears 95-10 to 95-100 to put in your power stand

On the top of the machine there is a button. Push the button while turning the handwheel toward you. When the button drops into the machine, you are ready to adjust the length. Keep holding the button in the machine and turn the handwheel forwards or backwards, noting the numbers on the inside of the handwheel. Turning the handwheel to the back decreases the size of the stitch, and turning the handwheel forward decreases the size of the stitch. Release the button and then begin to sew.

Make sure that the machine is in straight stitch forward and the stitch length is the highest level that it can go. If that doesn't make it go forward, you will have to use the old hair dryer trick. Take the top lid of the machine off and heat the inside with a heated hairdryer. Work the stitch length and the reverse until it frees up.

I have a Consew 99 Industrial zigzag which I am trying to adjust properly. I removed and cleaned the bobbin case and rotary hook assembly. I mounted the hook assembly and set the needle height at recommended and adjusted the timing. Without the bobbin case in, the timing looks good in both straight and zigzag. When I put the bobbin case with bobbin in, the needle hits it.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have a Singer 241-12 sewing machine, when I purchased this machine I was told that it had been used in an upholstery shop. I have lately acquired some work that I am having to use heavier fabric and I can't seem to get the two pieces of fabric to come out the same length. I believe I need a walking foot for this procedure.
Am I right or is there something else I can do. If I am in need of a walking foot where would I find one.

Your machine is a seaming machine and is not typically made for long runs. Loosen the pressure on the presser foot and purchase a teflon foot which will reduce the friction on the upper piece of material.

Sir, my wife has a Consew Industrial machine but can't get it to sew slowly- a stich at a time. The motor on it is 1475-1700 RPM. The Artisan says 0-1500 & 0-3000, speed adjustable by dial. Does that mean that it is adjustable by the dial not the footpetal? Or does the dial switch it from 0-1500 & 0-3000 and controlled by the footpedal in each range? She has a need to be able to control each stitch when she starts. Any help would be appreciated.

0-1500 means that the max speed is 1500. Put it on 0-1500 and press lightly. If you need further assistance, put a block underneath for a governer.

Hi I have a Pfaff 1245 Industrial machine that I recently purchased. After some adjustments I was able to set the tension properly and it now sews very nicely on canvas with Tex 92 bonded nylon thread.
However I have been attempting to sew heavy webbing and I am breaking the thread frequently. Also the thread sometime frays at the needle before breaking. When I sew across the webbing, the machine skips stitches but works ok when sewing the length of the straps until the thread breaks.
I have ordered some heavier Tex 135 weight thread thinking that may solve my thread breaking problem. The machine has a 3/4 hp motor so it has no problem pushing the needle through the straps?
Do you have any suggestions on how to effectively sew straps with this machine?

| Where to Oil?
Hi I was wondering if you could help me. I was given a Pfaff industrial straight stitcher a few years ago. I have no idea what model it is and have no manual to show me where to oil it. It hasnt been used for a while but now makes a horrible screaming noise in the main motor part when running. It still sews perfectly despite the noise. I have previously oiled it in the 'window' on the front of the machine but am unsure of where else to oil it. Is this all that could be wrong with it?

Hi,
I'd very much appreciate if you could give me instructions on how to time my Singer 221k sewing machine.
The problem is that it skips all stitches now. I looked at the instructions you gave for the singer 758 and figured that using the mark on the needle bar inside the case. I turned the crank towards me to the bottom and then continued until the mark lined up with the bottom of the needle bar holder. The needle is on it's way up at this
point. I then set the hook to be just in front of the needle. It still skips all stitches.
It's quite possible that the timing is fine, since before this the machine sewed fine, although it's been slowly getting worse. Also how
do you set the needle depth ?

Those two machines are not comparable. E-mail me back with explicit information as to what you have done to the machine so that I can instruct you on how to undo it. More than likely, the original problem was that the needle was in the machine backwards. Those machines do not go out of time very often.
Although following the instructions for repair on a different model machine may seem logical, all machines are different.

Dear industrial sewing machine man,
I have a Brother XR-52 sewing machine that is permanently sewing backwards. The backstitch lever moves yet cannot correct itself for forward stitching. I read some of your other inquiries for other people with the same problem and you told them to take off the back and blowdry the part, but I can't seem to get the cover off and I'm pretty sure that all the screws have been removed. I tried blowdrying into the machine and that does not help. It seems like something has slipped off of the backstitch lever that allows it to "un-backstitch" so I don't know if blowdrying will even help. Can you please tell me a) how to take off the casing and b) how to repair my machine? Thanks for your help.

| Dear Alex,
Try the simple stuff first- make sure that the machine is set center, straight, forward. If it is still running in reverse after all of that checks clear, your reverse is stuck and you will need to heat it with a hair dryer to free it up. I cannot instruct you how to take your casing off simply because without the machine in front of me, I cannot picture the steps in my head. Try taking the base off- anyway to enter into the machine to get the heat up in there.

You need to service the clutch. Remove the silver ring inside of the big wheel. You will see a circular disk with three humps on the outside and two humps on the inside drop out. Pull the handwheel toward the left side of the machine and oil inside of the handwheel hole. Push the handwheel back to the left, hold a paper towel near where you just oiled and run the machine. Complete this process until the needle stops going up and down. Then put the silver ring back on with the two inner bumps facing outwards. Replace the silver wheel, making sure that the screw inside of the silver wheel falls into two of the three outside bumps. This should solve your problem.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am in the process of buying a new industrial 3 thread overlock serger. Our current sewing machine is a discontinued My Lock 203 machine. We are looking into purchasing a Juki MO-6704D serger. I am in the aerospace industry so we are looking for something very durable. The material being used is a light-middle weight fabric.
Our old My Lock was a simple stand alone sewing machine. From what I am told, the Juki MO 6704 requires a built-in table. I've tried looking for the table via the internet for photographs and size dimensions but have been unsuccessful. Can you please send me information regarding the setup of the Juki serger, space required, photos, ect. All the photos I have seen are of the Juki serger without any signs of a table to be attached with it.

The Juki MO6704D is a 3 thread machine that requires a 1/2 horsepower motor to run it. The table would be 48"x20" and 4" high and adjustable to the height of the sewer.
On our website, we sell the machine complete with the stand and motor. It is very unusual for someone to just sell you the machine since it cannot operate without the powerstand. If you have any other questions, please do not hesistate to contact me.

I've changed the pulley sizes on my old Juki 141, in order to slow the main shaft speed down to about 400 r.p.m., but now I'm concerned that oil is not pumping up into the head. I have a new consew 7360. The foot peddle is hard to press down to get the motor to engage, when it does start sewing, it goes to fast, and when I want to stop, it keeps going. I have to really press hard to get it to stop. Is there something I can do to fix this. I have tried raising or lowering the peddle, that dosen't seem to help.

If you look where the treadle rod is connected to the motor, and you follow that up, you will see a wingnut with a spring. By tightening up the wingnut, it will make the break engage faster and the motor will not keep on running.
You may also need to move the treadle rod to a different spot along the bar. You will see that there are 3 or 4 holes there. Try moving it to on, where the rod is as straight as it can be to the pedal. Hope this helps.

| Cannot Find Information on..
I recently purchased an industrial singer machine that is labeled only with the number 251-i on the right hand side. Not sure if this machine is a lockstitch, serger or what. I have not been able to find any information on the internet regarding what type sewing machine this is. Does it do heavy stitching or what?

| The machine that you have is a high speed lockstitch machine produced in 1955 with no reverse. It is a model 251-1 not i, which is why you couldn't find any information on it. It is not a serger and will only go straight.

| Brother XL-6562 Question
Hi, I own a brother XL-6562 sewing machine. I was sewing with the machine and the bobbin ran out of thread. I wound the bobbin and started to sew and the machine will only sew backwards. I pushed down on the bar that makes the backwards stitch work and it feels like it's not catching something. Any suggestions?

| It sounds like the reverse mechanism is frozen. You will need to take the bottom of the machine off and locate the revers mechanism, which is usually a small cam in the middle of the lower shaft in the middle of the machine. Oil, service it, work it free, and that sould solve your problem.

Forgot to give exact name of sewing machine: Singer Zig Zag Model 625.
My machine jammed due to some lint caught under bobbin case. I removed the bobbin case but I am having trouble replacing it. Could you give me some tips? Your help will be appreciated.

| Dear Sharon,
On the lower right hand corner of the bobbin case is a black finger- gently lift it and pull it to the left. Now re-insert this piece by a downward angle- scrape the base of the machine while pushing it in to catch a spring that is in there. Once its in, lift it gently and push it to the right. Inspect your bobbin case and notice that it has a groove all the way around it. That groove has to sit flush on the hook with the finger of the bobbin case toward the front of the machine. When this is accomplished, slide the black finger to the left. It will snap down and hold the bobbin case in place.

| Replaced the Thread and Now It Won't Work Right
Hello,
I have an old 1941 and a 1914 singer commercial machines, They were from an old leather shop and I use them for leather. I used the 1941 for a while and things worked smooth. The bobbin ran out of thread and I replaced the thread and now I can't get it to work right. I sew about 8 inches and take the peice out and turn it over and the thread is all knotted up and bunched up. I mess with the tension on top and can't get it right. Can you help? Thank You, Alan

| Stitches Fine Forward, But Not Reverse
Good day doc,
I am working with a singer 591D300AD industrial sewing machine and the last couple days it has been exhibiting problems with back tacking. The machine sews fine forward but when I try to back tack it skips stitches or sometimes won't stitch at all. What do you think? any help will be
apreciated.

Dear Jim,
Do you know how to check the timing of your machine? It sounds like a timing problem to me. If you don't know how to check the timing:
take the side plate off, take the needle plate off, take the presser foot off, and put a new needle in the machine. Make sure that the needle is in the lowest position and look at the needle bar for the two timing lines. Locate the top line. Then, turn the handwheel toward you until the top line is where the bottom line was. At this point, the tip of the hook should be directly in the scarf of the needle. If not, e-mail me back.

| Singer 756 Won't Create Locked Stitches
I have a Singer model 756. For some reason, it will not create locked stitches anymore unless you have the needle position set to the left, and then it will make perfectly fine straight, locked stitches. Is this a timing problem? If so, why does the timing ever get out of adjustment? Can I adjust this myself?

| Can't Get Tension Right on My CG550
Dear industrial sewing machine man,
I bought a Singer CG 550 recently. However, I don't seem to be able to set the tension right. I tried all kinds of settings, by making minute adjustments to release or increase tension on the bobbin and stitch length, nothing worked. Sometimes, the stiches became so small, the needles basically perforated my cotton fabric and almost cut it off. Sometimes, the thread on the understitch just looped and looped. I'm very frustrated, do you know of any solution so I won't have to give up on my new machine? Thank you!!

We have an old Singer comerical machine. The model is 31 series. I belive the bobber thread is very loose under the material and the only adj is located on the top of machine. thump screw screwed it in no diff csrewd out on diff again.

| Skipping Stitches
Hello Sir,
I hope you can help me. I have a commercial sewing machine that is skiping stitches while sewing.
I have a Singer Model 31-15 sewing machine for very many years of problem free sewing.
Recently, it started skipping stitches. The machine will sew for a few inches, then skip about 4-6 inches and continue sewing normally for about 8 inches and skip again.
I have cleaned it, adjusted the tension, new needle, new needle plate, checked the bobbin holder.
I just cannot figure out what is wrong or how to fix it.
I hope you may help me or give me advice.

Make sure that the needle is in correctly with the scarf of the needle towards the hook. Take the needle plate off and the presser foot off. Turn the handwheel towards you until the needle is in the lowest position, and on the needle bar you will see two lines somewhere near where the needle bar enters the machine. When the needle is in the lowest position, the top line of the two lines should be flush with the body of the machine. | Tension Not Released
Dear industrial sewing machine man,
I have a Mercury model M-377 industrial sewing machine. The stitch looks great. The machine sews great. My dilemma is when I raise the presser foot, the tension is not released from the upper thread so I can not pull out the fabric and clip my threads without usually braking the thread, even when I use upholstery weight thread. Can you help me?

When you raise the presser bar it should lift a small U-shaped piece of metal inside the head of the machine directly pushing a release pin located in the center of the tension post. You have to determine whether this operation is happening before you go any further. Sometimes the screw on the lifter bar loosens and loses contact with that U-shaped piece of metal. If that is working properly, then on your tension unit itself, starting with the parts going from front to back, you have a thumb screw, a number wheel, a lock, a beehive-shaped spring, and the next piece is the tension release cup. This cup slides on the tension bar with the piece of metal sliding into the bar which is split. That slight peice of metal that slides inside could be deformed. If that is the case, tap it gently to bend it towards the machine. This is the best that I can tell you right now. Try these suggestions and get back to me.

It is just bent out of shape, so gently bend it on a trial basis- check to see after each careful bend whether or not it will stay on top of the presser foot lifter. I wish I could be more helpful.

| I Can Wind A Bobbin, But the Needle....
I can wind a bobbin but the needle will not go up and down. I have oiled it, tighten the wheel back up after winding the bobbin. Help, I don't know what to do. The motor runs when I run it with the wheel tightened but it will not stitch.

If you take the silver wheel off of the machine, there is a round metal washer with three bumps on the outside and two bumps on the inside. This washer should be replaced on the wheel with the inner bumps facing outward.

| Merrow Threading Diagram
Hi --
My name is Carol and I've just come into possession of a Merrow machine,
style M3DW2. The thing looks ancient, but works very well. Up until
now, I've only been able to use black thread in the machine because no
manual came with the machine (my aunt recently sold her store and gave
me this as a hand-me-down).
I tried once to change the machine and I had to pay a service man $40.00
to fix my error and, on top of that, he would not tell me how to
properly thread the machine.
I'd really like to know how to thread this thing without having to
calling a repair guy and shell out $40 every time I want to switch
threads. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. I even tried
visiting the Merrow website, but did not find my machine listed anywhere.

| Singer HD110 Very Stiff
I just purchased a new Singer HD110 from e-bay. It was still sealed in the box. I tested it last night. It seems to be very tight or stiff. I have to hand crank it to get it going. I'm puting sewing machine oil on it tonight. Does this sound normal? Do you think it has a serious problem? What eles should I do or check?
Also it is very loud, Is that normal?

| It is normal for a new machine to be tight and slightly noisy. If you oil it and run it and it doesn't loosen up and get a little quieter, I suggest contacting the person that you purchased it from.

| Too Fast For Me!
I have consew industral with a 1/2 hp 3450 rpm motor. This thing moves to fast for me. Sometimes I can keep it down but when it takes off get your fingers out of the way. I have tried to slow it with the spring but no luck then someone told me to turn the big bolt and set nut but thought I shuold ask first.

| Too Tight Bobbin in My Juki
Hi!
My problem with my Juki TL-98E is that every time I insert the bobbin into the bobbin case it is a really tight fit & I have to push that into the Juki bobbin case holder. And then when I place it in the machine apparently it isn't turnning well so the thread will break when I start to sew. I even oiled the area like the book said. It is difficult to fit the bobbin into that holder for some reason. It is really frustrating.
Any help would be great!

Have you recently dropped your bobbin case? If so, you may have bent it ever so slightly causing the too snug fit of the bobbin in the bobbin case. My advice is to purchase some new bobbins as well as a new bobbin case. That should remedy the problem. | Which Way Does the Needle Go In?
My father gave me his old industrial machine model 31-15, but when I look at the needle, it is completely round. I don't know which way it should face. Do I put the hole to the front or the hole to the side? Help! I'm confused!

The needle used for that machine is size 16x257. On all industrial needles the tops are round. You must look near the eye of the needle to determine which side to put to the outside of the machine. If you look at the needle, you will see that one side of the needle has a groove running down from top to the eye of the needle. The other side will have a groove that stops before the eye, and there will be an indentation. This is called the scarf of the needle. On the 31-15 the scarf always goes to the inside.
