QuestionDressmaker Model 800
Hello Richard,
Today I received a free sewing machine and I cannot find out any information on it. I know it is not a singer machine because there are no singer markings on it anywhere. Here is the information that I have; Dressmaker Model 800 Serial number 1288 oh it was made in 1968. It also has a J-A89 stamped on the metal frame. Do you have any idea about this machine? I have been searching the internet for hours and still come up blank. Here is a picture.

Is there anywhere to get parts for it or a manual? I have no idea on how to operate it at all. Thank you for what you can tell me about it.

QuestionPart for 111W155 Singer
I am desperately seeking a part for my 111W155 Singer. It’s the lever located on the back of the machine that lifts the foot when the knee lift is used. The # on the broken part is 240175. This machine has served me well and sews beautifully. I am starting a home business sewing awnings, PWC seats, marine upholstery etc. and it’s difficult to say the least to have to lift the foot manually. I found the part at another location, but they only ship UPS and UPS does not ship to our address for some unknown reason. FedEx ships to me on a regular basis and we also have a PO Box if either of those would be an option. Any consideration you can give would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to your reply. Thank You very much.

QuestionParts to much Money
I looked on your web site for a part for mu Juki machine. After getting the part number I check e bay and found the part cheaper in price than your web site. So I ordered it after just 1 month the part broke. Is there something wrong with my machine to make it break so soon.
Thank You
Richard
12/11/2017
AnswerDear Richard
It maybe the quality of the part. We only sell genuine parts and OEM Parts that meet the original manufacturer Speciation's. It may look like you are paying more but you are getting 1st class parts. We could bring in parts from unknown manufactures but the quality would be suspect.

QuestionMotor Help
where can I find the part number for motor brushes in a singer 5050 ? I cannot find any numbers on the motor, but there are numbers on the switch. Thanks for any help.
8/22/2006
AnswerThose motors are so inexpensive that they don't break them down for parts. You could send me your motor and I could make them for you for $19.95 + shipping. In my opinion, if the carbon brushes are gone that quickly, the motor is no good. You could a new motor for about $40-$45. Let me know.

QuestionHinges for Cabinet
I have a Singer model 348 sewing machine w/o cabinet. I have a cabinet of unknown brand I would like to put the machine into. The problem is that the hinges in the cabinet have smaller diameter pins than the holes in the machine. The hinge pins are 5mm. in diameter and the holes in the machine are 7mm. In diameter . Otherwise the machine and cabinet are compatible. Can you supply hinges or offer advice?

Thank you
Peter

PS. Your advice to free up a reverse switch using a hairdryer worked for me.
8/16/2006
AnswerDear Peter,

I could supply you with round hinges with the proper diameter- now the question is, can you install the different hinge into the cabinet. Overall, if you tighten the set screw or acquire longer set screws (if necessary), it should work. The difference in size is not that great.

Glad the old hair dryer trick worked for you!

QuestionStretched Old Belt Replacement
Hi,
My new sewing machine was wiped out by Katrina(New Orleans). I used it in my commercial embroidery business. After the storm, a church was offering free clothes and furniture instead of selling it in a rummage sale as usual. I walked in and found this old Brother Precision DeLuxe. It's green and old, but the darn thing runs and sews beautifully. I guess you can't kill it, huh? Anyway, I noticed today that the belt is very stretched and loose and no longer is effective. Do you know of a source for these belts?

E-mail me back with the circumference of the belt and I will be able to help you.

RE:
It measures 13 3/4", however, it is loose. I imagine that it should be 13 1/2". It's just a little loose. It is a cord like belt(rounded) and rubber.

QuestionFoot Pedal Needed
Hello,
I have a simplicity denim star sewing machine (my kenmore is out of comission for now) and it has a cheap plastic foot pedal which is a piece of junk. It is impossible to make it keep a level feed. Most of the time it either won't go, even if I push it all the way down, or it goes way too fast no matter how gently I touch it. Is it possible to get a metal foot pedal with a plug that will fit this machine or can I get a metal foot pedal and cut the plug off of this plastic piece of junk and wire it onto the new one? I am sewing for a living at the moment and it is driving me nuts! Thank you for your help.

I'd even be willing to buy another parts machine if you could tell me where to find one.
Also, I have several 930's. Some have the needle down function in the foot control, some don't. Is there a way to make those that done, turn into machines that can have this feature? thanks.

Elizabeth

As for your question about the 930's, sorry, you cannot turn those machines into ones with the feature.

Let me know if I could help you any further.

QuestionManual
Hello
I have an old electric sewing machine I am trying to locate a manual on so I will know how to thread it. No, I am not much of a seamstress!! There is nothing on the machine that indicates the brand however, the foot pedal does say Singer. When I tilt the machine up I see: C 1 6 1 6 1. On the front of the machine is a gold colored plate that says: Precision Built Made in Japan. There is an ornate silver moveable circle/mediallion on the back and on the side of the machine where the needle is there is an ornate silver plate there. That is pretty much all the markings on this machine. I purchased it at an auction and would like to use it. It seems to run good. It moves freely and quietly. It probably needs a new belt and a good cleaning. I just do not know how to get it threaded and would like to see if I can find a manual--just do not know what to look for.
Thank you. Donna
7/12/2006
AnswerDear Donna,

I need to know whether the tension dial is on the side of the machine or the front of the machine. I also need to know whether the bobbin is inserted in the side or the front. A picture would be very helpful. The manual is $16.95. I do believe from your description that it is a 15-class machine. I have those manuals in stock.

QuestionI Purchased a Tailor-
I have read four Q & A's on your website on a 'Tailor Sewing Machine' sold by a guy in NJ. I too went to a hotel to buy 'overstock of commercial grade & classroom use school machines' and bought what was represented to me as a Tailor TM Professional Model 986. It was represented as a commercial grade machine by an American company. And guess what, the company- Tailor Sewing Machine Company, is out of 25 Church St., KeyportNJ07735. (Phone #'s 732.739.9595 or 1-800-486-8343 just incase any one else did this.) Your website says it's made in Poland, the box it came in says Taiwan. Ever heard of this machine? It seems ok, having trouble with the buttonholer, won't complete the last side, maybe it's me but I'm an experienced sewer. Also. because no one has ever heard of this machine, is there a comparable, usable cording/welting foot available? Would Singer 834 parts fit? (Your site says the Polish machines were a take off on the Singer 834). I've only had the Tailor for one day but now I'm nervous & wonder if I should contact American Express, stop the charge & return it. Please...advise on quality if you know of it or other problems from naïve buyers like me! I'm going to call the company in NJ on Monday (today's Saturday) and ask some frank questions. God, I hope it's a real phone number!!!

Thank You!

Hi,

I have attached a few photos of this machine. I saw a picture of a Simplicity SA2400L that looked pretty similar. We were told it was compatible with all Singer feet. Also, I paid $275.00 for the machine. Thanks for any help you can give me. I did work out the buttonhole feature and have become pretty familiar with it. Bobbin loading is still somewhat uneven, not pleased totally but working on it.

Thanks again. I look forward to hearing from you. Also, when you determine what this is comparable to in another machine, can you tell me if you also sell specialty feet. i.e. welting foot, ruffle foot, etc. that would fit this machine. Thanks!

I have a Singer Model 9134 sewing machine that hesitates as I sew. It stops sewing and I have to take my foot of the foot control and put it back on to get it going again...then it only sews about 2 inches and stops again. I think it may be the transducer. If it is the foot control

Question241 Manual
Dear industrial sewing machine man,

I noticed in the question/answer portion of your site that the 241-12 was NOT designed for leather. The reason I bought the machine is that the owner (a former boot maker) demonstrated the machine by sewing 3 pieces of leather together. The total thickness of all the leather combined was about a quarter of an inch. Are you saying the machine will not hold up as far as sewing leather is concerned?

Also, do you know where I can get an owner’s manual/instruction guide?

I can get you a manual. They are $16.95 + $6.95 shipping. Please call 1-800-544-5858 to order.

I stated that the 241 was not produced to sew leather, rather, it was produced to sew long lengths at high speeds. This is not to say that it will not sew leather, but its capabilities are limited.

QuestionCan You Help?
My mother has always sewn and made sure that each of my sisters and I had a sewing machine. These are 2nd hand machines and of course do not have instruction manuals. Can you help find the manuals and parts?

Machine #1 - Kenmore Model 49
(Model 120-49 Volt 110-120 AC/DC Serial Number 83291)**I believe that this is missing a wire-like tension or thread holder and need replacing.

Machine #2 - Dressmaker 965 Serial Number 18968 Made in Japan

This machine had a set of disks that locked into an area on top of the machine for different stitches. I believe they were like locking type caps. Have you ever seen this??

QuestionDo You Have Any Idea?
I have a Brother model LS 2125, in the bobbin compartment there two little springs, the larger (fatter) springs is hooked up but the smaller(slimmer) is unhooked at the bottom, could you tell me where or what the bottom hook goes to. I checked the manual but there is nothing in it about the springs. I was taking it apart to clean and oil and found it. I noticed it hadn't been pulling the fabric through as it should.

Thanks so much

QuestionPosition Finger Screw
I have a Singer 2010 touch tronic sewing machine that I need a position fingrer screw for.I have tried in vain to find one . I do not need the complete position finger, only a correct fitting screw. It seems at some point in time my mother had taken this machine to the shop and they must have lost the original screw for the machine and replaced it with an ill fitting screw and even tried to super glue an incorrect screw into the finger .I kept having a problem with my thread bunching up inside the bobbin case.Everything would be going fine then all at once ,Wham !Jam! I had a good friend and neighbor look at it He used to work on machines and after much checking found this problem, but did not have a correct screw and did not know if or where I might find one.Can you help me?
AnswerIf someone already put an offsize screw in there, the original one is not going to fit because the machine is made out of aluminum and cuts its own threads. What you need to do is position the position finger at the correct position- whether you secure it with apoxy or crazy glue, there is no way around it.

QuestionDressmaker Manual
Hello,

I have been searching for information on an old, used sewing machine I have. It is a portable Dressmaker S-2402 sewing machine in the carrying case that hooks on both ends, it has a foot pedal and is extremely heavy. I'm attaching pictures of it in hopes you will have information on it.

I'm interested in getting a copy of the manual for it so I can see exactly how to thread it, set the tension, make the stitches shown on the side, etc. I'd also like to know how to clean it and get it in top working condition. I plugged it in last night and the light works, the pedal works and I was able to sew a small piece of fabric but it did have a "warm" smell to it. Is that normal?

I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me on it.

Thank you,

QuestionBobbins to Fit My Singer

Do you have bobbins that will fit my machine or do you know where I might find them to buy.

QuestionQuantum 9240....
I have a Singer Quantum 9240 sewing machine. It was bought used and it doesn't seem to work properly. I kind of suspect it is the foot pedal. When I press on the pedal, the machine makes a couple of stitches from me pressing on the foot pedal and then stops. The foot pedal is an air pedal I believe. When the pedal is disconnected from the machine and I press on the pedal I can feel a bit of air coming out of the cord end which hooks into the machine.

I guess what I am wondering is why doesn't the pedal make the machine sew continuously like an old machine I had but it had a metal pedal and metal parts? Is there a problem with this plastic foot pedal? I also don't understand how the foot pedal would make the machine sew continously since there' no metal connection and only my foot to pump the air to make the machine sew. Was I given the wrong foot pedal?

Gail
Answer

Dear Gail,

Remove the foot pedal from the stem, hold your finger over the hole, press the foot pedal and wait about 4-5 seconds. Quickly remove your finger from the hole. If you hear a puff of air, the pedal is good. If you don't hear a puff of air, you need a new foot pedal (part # 988677-001).

If you do hear the air, you need to replace the part that the foot pedal plugs into. Its called a transducer. (Part # 988549-002 on www.sewingandvac.com )

Your machine is run by air pressure and the air pressure from the foot pedal moves the feed control which is why you have no metal pieces.

Hello, I need an instruction manual for a Montgomery Ward sewing machine model UHT J 1944

Thanks!!
Joanie
AnswerI would need to see a picture of the machine to be able to help you.

Montgomery Ward never actually manufactured any sewing machines, rather, they had other sewing machine companies such as Singer and Brother manufacture machines for them. Then they just put their name and a number on the machine. The model numbers on the machines are not traceable which is why I would need to see a picture of the machine to be able to determine which sewing machine company manufactured yours in order to locate a manual.

QuestionBernina 930 Foot Control
I have a Bernina Record 930 Electronic with a Type 347 Foot Control. One of the carbon pins broke, so I ordered 2 new pins. I was able to successfully get the pins installed in the little assembly that holds them inside the foot control. However, I was not able to get the foot control back together without breaking the pins again. What is the secret to getting the foot control back together without breaking the pins?

Also, will any ordinary 2-wire foot control work with my Bernina if I splice in the 347 wire?

Thank you, Shirley
AnswerA carbon press foot control will not work on your machine.

The easiest way to correct your problem would be for your to send me your foot control and I will re-assemble and test it for you before shipping it back to you.

Replacing the pins is easy for me to do because I have been doing it for over 30 years, however, it is difficult to explain exact motions in an e-mail.

The cost of you sending me your pedal would be the cost of shipping both ways and $10.00 for me to do the work. Let me know if you would be interested.

QuestionNot Sure What it's Called.....
Dear Industrial Sewing Machine Man,

I recently purchased a lovely Lydia which arrived in great condition, only there is an outer plastic piece with a broken end. I need to replace it, but I'm afraid I don't know what it's called. The Lydia's thread spool is at the back of the machine, and the plastic part above it is the first thing that the thread goes in to. I'm not an experienced sewer, and I can't find the name of this item anywhere, so am not sure if I need a specific type or if there is a generic one that will do. It screws on to the sewing machine itself.

Any advice would be appreciated.

QuestionCan I Get a Repair Manual Somewhere??
Hi, I am new to sergers and this week I have been learning to use my Brother Pacesetter PL-1050 (it's about 9 years old but had been sitting in its box) but now I've broken it. I forgot to push in the "lowerlooper threading lever" and then ran the machine and the piece got all mashed up. It looks like I should be able to replace this piece, but I have not been able to find it online. Can I get a repair manual somewhere? I have the "Handbook for Compact Overlook Machine" that it came with, although obviously I wasn't paying careful enough attention to the part of it that said always to push in the lever before sewing!

thanks,

Unfortunately, I cannot get you a repair manual, however, I can get the part for you. If you are still interested in getting the part without the repair manual, let me know.

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

RE:
The part would be good.

Is this it? ==>

Part No. X77137001
Brother Loopers -Household Sergers - Model(s): 900D, 920D, 934D, PC950, PC1050 - Lower looper thread guide slide
Bin:19N-X

And then I just replace the whole assembly via the Phillips-head screw there? Or what?

I have a handy spouse who can help me, but myself I'm not terribly handy.

thanks!

RE:
Yes, that is the correct part. It is only one screw- I'm sure your spouse could do it. Either place your order online at www.sewingandvac.com or call 1-800-544-5858.

You will have to have a custom-made cabinet made specifically for your machine. Unfortunately, I do not know of anyone that makes custom sewing machine cabinets.

QuestionAmbassador Manual
Hi. I was given an Ambassador sewing machine. I have asked around, and no one has ever heard of the make. It looks like it's pretty old, and I was wondering if you've ever heard of the make, and if it's possible to get an owner's manual for it. Thanks. Judy
AnswerDear Judy,

Ambassador was not a manufcaturer of sewing machines, they simply put their name on a machine that was more than likely produced by Singer. I would need more information, such as a picture, I will be able to determine exactly what make and model machine it is and then try to locate you a manual.

If you are going to send me a picture through e-mail, please do not send it as an attachment. I am unable to open them. Please just copy and paste the picture onto the e-mail itself.

QuestionSewMore Tip Top Motor
Please tell me that you've heard of my machine! I've been trying to find a new motor (mine is about to burn out) as well as other replacement parts (belts, for example). I love this machine - it was given to me by a friend who never used it, and perhaps that is why it isn't holding up. I just used it for the first time today and suddenly, the motor started "spinning," but the machine wasn't sewing. Soon, I saw a little puff of smoke from the motor.
No one seems to have heard of this machine and it has the most wonderful stitch! It sews like a hot knife going through melted butter! I'd hate to put this thing in the closet!
Do you know where I can find the needed parts? The motor says: General Motors Corporation, Volts: 115, Amps: 9, HP 1/15, Svc. No.: 5047431, and the machine is called a Sewmore Tip Top (looks like my ancient Singer)
Thanks a million!
Pam
AnswerDear Pam,

I have heard of your machine. Send me a picture of the machine and how the motor is attached to it so that I can get you a new motor. I will also be able to locate parts for you once I see a picture of it. Please paste the picture onto the e-mail itself rather then sending it as an attachment. I am unable to open attachments. Please respond so that I can enable you to "Sewmore" : )

RE:
Tom-

I had to send them as a word document. I couldn't figure out how to send them inside of an email message.

I hope you are able to see them well enough. I also need a couple of replacement belts - and if you have a new cord!!

I am still in shock that you HEARD of my machine! What ever happend to this company, anyway? They look so much like my old singer.............

Thanks again-

Pam

RE:
Dear Pam,

I have the motor which comes with a belt and the cord for $39.95 + $6.95 shipping. Please call 1-800-544-5858 to order. Sewmore never actually produced machines, they just distributed the machines and slapped their name on them. Distributors come and go. Your machine was most likely produced by Singer.

Tom-

I just wanted to let you know that the motor came yesterday and now the machine runs wonderfully! Thank you for all your help. I've put you in my "favorites" list so I'll know where to find you the next time.

By the way.......I have the Singer anniversary edition machine (awesome machine!). The front of the machine says: 1851 to 1951, so I guess mine is the 1951 model. Anyway, this machine came with the most handy attachments (hemmer, binder, and so on). The one I like the best is the hemmer that folds the material as it sews....... Anyway, do they still sell these attachments anywhere?

QuestionWhich Bobbin Fits My Singer Merritt 3130
Hi,
I just came back from a garage sale with an old Singer Merritt 3130. There is not a bobbin in the machine. I tried my class 15 bobbins, and some from an old kenmore I used to have. They both seem too tall, as the top thread keeps getting caught on the bobbin as it tries to make it's circle around the bobbin. Do you know the size bobbin that fits this model? I'm eager to
get sewing! Thanks sew much:)

The price of foot pedals are not denoted by the price of the machine. You'll pay anywhere between $35-$60 (for the foot pedal and cord) and then a much higher price for electronic machine pedals. I can possibly find you a used one for $20-$25.00. Let me know if you would like me to look for you.

QuestionWhich Feet Fit My Machine?
Tom,

I sent you this morning the 7/8 inch measurement for my kenmore machine foot. I also would like a snap on shank/foot for my singer model #603E. The foot measurement sitting flat from the back of the foot to the top of the shank is 1 1/4 inch. Thanks again.

Your Singer 603E is slant. You will need to purchase a Singer snap on ankle, part # 5012-ss on www.sewingandvac.com

After that, you are limited to Singer snap on feet which consists of beading foot, buttonhole foot, couching foot, hemmer, overedge, satin, straight, and zig zag, as well as even feed. All of this is available on our website.

For your low shank Kenmore sewing machine, you can buy a complete set of snap-matic feet with the ankle, part # 5011LC on www.sewingandvac.com

QuestionKenmore Parts
Dear industrial sewing machine man:

I recently bought a Kenmore Serger, (Cdn) model # 385.16622. My problem is where can I find feet for this machine? The manual that came with it gives me a telephone number to call, for both Us & Canada, I called it, the part numbers listed in the manual are not what customer service has listed.

I e-mailed customer service a week ago, and have not heard back. I haven’t used the serger that much yet and really haven’t learned to much about it. I’m thinking that it is an older serger and that Sears is looking to get rid of them or that it is a newer model, and the parts haven’t been updated.

Can you help?

Thank you

Sandra
AnswerDear Sandra,

The reason Sears was not able to help is because Sears never manufactured any of their own sewing machines. It could be any sewing machine company. If you send me a picture of your machine I will be able to get you parts.

QuestionManuals
Hello,

I am so (or should I say sew) happy to find your site. My dear mother-in-law passed away and among the many items she left me are a brother computerized sewing machine. I say computerized because it looks like touch stitch. Also a brother four spool serger. I can't find booklets for the life of me. The only writing on the sewing machine is a serial number and not a model number.

If this helps, all that is written on the sewing machine is: e41111306, 120v, 60hz, ac, 90w. It reads pattern stitch on there and the spool of thread is laying down on top as opposed to standing up.

If you are able to help me find the correct source for booklets, I would be most grateful.

Thanks for your time,

Question401A Manual
Dear industrial sewing machine man:

I have a Singer 401A. I'm just starting to learn to sew and am very excited, however, I can't figure out how to thread the bobbin and it's sewing backwards. This machine came from a friend and I asked her if she did anything to it to make it go in reverse and she said no. It's never been in reverse before and all of a sudden it is!

Please help! Where can I find a manual or instructions?
Thank you,
Madeyline
AnswerDear Madeyline,

If the stitch length bar, which is located on the right side of the machine, is in the up position move it down to where the numbers are. Those numbers are referring to how many stitches the machine will sew in an inch. Therefore, if you put it on 10, your machine will sew 10 stitches per
inch. It being up will cause your machine to go in reverse.

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

QuestionSinger 401A Cams
Hi I just recieved a Singer 401A. However all I have is the machine and the cabinet it came with. i have no manual, or Cams for the fancy stiching. where can I purchase these items? Do you sell them and how much. the machine does work but all I can get was a beautiful straight stitch. After research I found out you need the cams to do fancy stiches.
Any info would be appreciated.

AnswerDear Judith,

We can supply you with the manual for $16.95 as well as the cams for fancy stitching for your machine for $2.50 each. I would double check the model number on your machine, however, because the 401A had at least 15-20 built in stitches which means that you would be able to get more than just a nice straight stitch.

In order to determine which sewing machine company manufactured your machine and which model it is, I would need to see it.

QuestionGenuine Parts vs. Generic
Dear industrial sewing machine man:
I have a Pfaff 1222 sew machine, I am having problem with the foot, and I am 100% sure that the foot has gone bad. Can I use any other foot for this machine just changing the adopter which connect the machine to run or I have to get the Pfaff foot control. What do you suggest? Please let me know. Thank you.
Champa
AnswerDear Champa,

It is always in the machine's best interest to put original parts as well as the foot control into the machine for upkeep, however, a carbon press foot control will do the job. It eliminates some speed control, but not all.

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

RE:

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your letter, I bought a foot control as you advice me, it is electronic
and it is working well. Now my 1222 Pfaff machine is working very well.
Again, thank you for your advice.

QuestionMini Lock FR850 Belt
Dear industrial sewing machine man:

I own a Heavy Mini Lock FR 850 Serger and need a belt for the motor; The present belt has slack in it and needs to be replaced. Please provide me the name of a universal/generic belt and size that can be used. Also some direction in where to locate the belt needed and the approximate cost.

Thank You…

Danetta
AnswerDear Danetta,

The motor on that mini-lock should be adjustable to take up the slack that you describe. If the belt does need to be replaced, supply me with the circumference of the belt that is on the machine now, or look on www.sewingandvac.com for a belt that is close in size. Let me know.

QuestionStitch Condenser
Dear industrial sewing machine man:

Have you ever seen a stitch condenser for industrial sewing machine, and how do I find one?

Designer
AnswerNo, I have never heard of that term. What does a "stitch condenser" do?

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

RE:

A stitch is a device added to a sewing machine where when you come to the end of a seam the size of the stitches Become very small so that you do not have to trim the threads.

Designer

RE:

Dear Designer,

I am very sorry, but there is not such a device that you could put onto a sewing machine to accomplish that task. It can only be done with electronic control system on your industrial machine, for example the Juki DDL8700-7. Hope this helps.

QuestionWhere Can I Get This Foot Control #619494-132 (replaces #618776-007)?
I need some help with the type/style/size of foot control of the above number. I have a health problem with my foot.

My machine presently has a bakelite clam shape controller, but it will only sew fast and becomes very hot quickly. I have only found narrow metal controllers to replace it. I don't think I could use that shape. Could you send me an email picture or tell me which picture is the correct one where they are listed.

My machine is a Singer 348 and the present controller has the numbers on the above subject line.

Thank you for your help.
Anita
AnswerDear Anita,

Unfortunately, that foot pedal is no longer available new, however, I do have used ones available for $25.00 + $6.95 shipping. This is a special order, let me know if you would be interested.

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

RE:
Is there a waranty with the used controller? I know I have an old machine, probably 1960s?, if my controller has worn out, wouldn't the ones that you have for sale be likely to quit working too? Also can you tell me the material that the new one is fabricated from and the size of the foot area? Thank you for all the answers,
Anita

RE:
We will give you a 90-day warranty on the foot pedal. Yes, your machine is old, however that is not why your foot pedal expired. The reason that your foot pedal is not working is due to the metal contacts inside which have become pitted.

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

RE:
I'd like to order the used foot pedal. I have another machine, but have always wished I had this one back to use. We were told by someone here in the city a few years ago that it was impossible to get any type of foot pedal for this machine--too too old. I am happy that my husband found your company on the Web. Please tell me how to make the buy.
Thank you,
Anita

QuestionMultiple Machines - Need Info and Parts For All
Sir,

My uncle just purchased the following machines:

three Singer Industrial sewing machines, model # 241-12 (I believe
they're all the same model)

one Merrow model A-3DW machine. At first, we were told this was an
embroidery machine, but after looking at your website, it is now clear
that this is a serger of some type.

It seems that ALL of these machines need parts and supplies. All three
Singers need belts and presser feet. One needs the plate that goes under
the presser foot (unsure of the term for it). All need bobbins, and one
needs a bobbin "hook"(?). Also, we are in need of appropriate needles,
presser foot screws, etc. Lastly, only one "oil pan" and table came with
these machines - is there a way we can obtain two oil pans, gaskets &
etc. parts to get them running? I'm sure we'll need other parts as well,
once they're checked out.

The Merrow needs needles for certain, but we're unsure of what else we
might need, should we decide to keep it (unsure if we need a serger).

For ALL four machines, we are in desperate need of information. Neither
one of us has a clue how they work, how to thread them, the direction
the belts go, how to wind a bobbin on these, basically everything. I
cannot find any books or on-line instructions on these yet. We are
willing to pay for a user and repair manual for both machine types.

My uncle plans to use at least one of the Singers to sew upholstery
fabric for seats for his boat, and possibly other duties (probably
vinyl, maybe canvas on occasion). I would like to use one of the Singers
to sew vegetable tanned leather, with the proper needles, up to 14 oz.
thickness (two layers of 6-7 oz. leather), to make belts and other small
leather items. We will need the proper presser feet, needles, bobbins,
and other parts for this.

Any and all information you can help us with (either provide directly,
or give us a pointer or two where to find it) would be greatly
appreciated. We are willing to pay for this information if necessary,
but as we have a lot of parts to replace to get all of the machines
working, we just cannot afford to have a professional repair shop
refurbish all of them & provide instruction.

We are VERY competent mechanics - my uncle has built cars, boats, and
many other vehicles of different types, and I have built cars, do
professional gunsmithing & holster making, and many, many other things.
With a little information, I believe we are up to the task of repairing
and refurbishing these machines.

We both thank you for any and all assistance you may provide.

Michael
AnswerDear Michael,

The Singer 241-12 was made right after WWII. These are very old machines and we can obtain the major parts for them, such as needles, bobbins, needle plates, feeders, etc. It is not possible to obtain new oil pans for them. The Merrow machine that you have is also very vintage, however, we can supply any parts that you need for it.

Now the bad news. These machines were designed to make dresses not to sew leather, leatherette, vinyl, canvas material. You will need a walking foot machine of some kind to do your job. Cheapest good one being a Reliable with a cost of $825.00.

I do not want you to believe that I am trying to push something onto you, but you should undertsand that if you were to replace that 241-12 with a brand new unit including table stand and motor, it would only cost you $450.00.

Please contact me if I can help you any further and I hope this answers all of your questions.

Thank You,

QuestionSinger Athena 2000 Parts List?
The belt needs to be replaced but I can't get the front cover off to do this. All screws are removed but it still won't come apart. Also the foot peddle seems to be stuck and stays on. Do you have parts lists and repairs for this particular machine ?

Thanks

Bob
AnswerDear Bob,

Part # SM-2000 is the service manual for your machine. It can be found on www.sewingandvac.com. It sounds as if there is a spring that is broken in your foot pedal. If you need further assistance, let me know.

QuestionDressmaker Parts?
Hello,
I have an old machine that someone just gave me, it is a Dressmaker Model 1305,w/serial#10374. It has no bobbin, and I think it is missing the case that the bobbin goes into to put in the machine. Do you know where I can get this? Also, the person who gave it to me said it was a Singer.
That singer made Dressmaker, true?
Thanks
AnswerDear Rossana,

The bobbin case that you need is part# JO1313Z3 on www.sewingandvac.com and the bobbin is part # 2518. Singer may have manufactured your Dressmaker, as they had several sewing machine companies make machines for them, however, it is difficult to determine exactly which company manufactured your machine.

QuestionTailor Machine Accessories?
Dear Industrial Sewing Machine Man,

I was given an old Tailor machine by a friend's
mother. After doing internet research, I found that the company was a scam. I assume I will not be able to get the blindstich hem guide from them, but I was wondering whether there would be a comprable accessory produced by another company which would fit on my
machine?

Thanks,

Any low shank accessory will fit your machine.

QuestionButtnhole Attatchement for 401a?
I hope that you can help me. I have a Singer 401a that belonged to my mother -I have used other machines over the years and always wind up using this machine (and my White Serger). I have bought inexpensive machines just to make buttonholes and attach buttons - they never last long. So, I am searching for a buttonhole attachment for my 401a - I know they are out there. I bought - from Ultimate Sew and Vac a RB-S attachment but it will not work. It holds the fabric way too securely and I cannot move it under the presser foot.

What I need to know is which buttonhole attachment should I buy? I cannot go trial and error as I am already $50 in the hole with the one I ordered since it does not work. Can you help me?

I am desperate to figure this out as my sewing is a parttime job and I have to be able to do these buttonholes.

Thanks so very much!!

--gay hilemn
AnswerDear Gay,

The slant buttonhole attachment that you purchased does work with your Singer 401a, however, since it is an after-market part, it needs to be adjusted accordingly. Since you said that the attachment holds onto the fabric too tightly, loosen your presser foot lifter. Turn the thumb screw in the upper right hand top of your machine counter-clockwise to loosen the pressure. This should fix that problem. You could also go another route- I have an original buttonhole attachment for your Singer 401a that will work with no adjustments. That part, however, since it is the original one from 40 years ago, is $65.00. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank You,
Industrial Sewing Machine Man

Tom Williams--
I will try that - if it works and is not to much trouble, then that will be great. If it does not work or is too much trouble - I will be back in touch for the original. I do not mind spending the money if it works - that is a lot less than buying another machine just to do buttonholes! Do you, by chance, also have any cams for a 401a? I had them, but have been unable to locate them when looking recently - do not know if they got thrown out - anyway, just curious. Thank you so very much for your help!!
--gay

Sure! We have a large variety of cams for your machine. Let me know which ones you want.

QuestionNeedles & Thread for Industrial Machine
Dear sir, I have a yamata FY 8500 industrial sewing machine. i would like to sew canvas for my boat. I am looking for needles that are compatable with that machine. I would also like to find thread that has uv protection to use with sunbrella material for outside canvas work. if you can supply me with these items I would appreciate it. my concern is the needle that has a groove near the eye and I think that s ince it needs to be positioned a certain way it is different than a regular home sewing needle. commercial needles have a round shaft so they would fit the machine. thank you for your help. john ingram
AnswerDear John,

I am sorry, but we do not supply thread. I would recommend that you contact an upholstery supply house and inform them that you need a 69 core thread that is anti-rot and anti-sun. The needles for your machine should be an industrial needle 135x17 and most probably size 22 or 23 if you are using a 69 core thread. We do have the needles in stock, and if you would call us on our 800 number, we would be happy to take your order. Hope this helps.

Thanks
Kelly Roman
AnswerDear Kelly,

The DDL-8700 is a standard drop feed machine, so you will need to order a left or right piping foot part-# 36069L or 36069R. You also have to know what size you need. They come from 1/16" to 1/2". QuestionNeed Parts for Montgomery Ward Machine
I have owned a Montgomery Ward machine for over 35 years. It was purchased in New York City. I have tried to get several attachments for this machine, but everyone tells me that it is not possible because the Montgomery Ward Co. is out of business. Is this true? If so, can I still get any attachments for my machine?

Sue Patel
AnswerDear Mrs. Patel,

Sorry to say that the Montgomery Ward Corporation is out of business, but feet and bobbins are still obtainable for the machine. I would first need to know if the machine is a low or high shank machine. If you put the foot in the down position and measure it from the the thumb screw to the plate, that will tell me whether you have a low or high shank machine and we could possibly get you the attachments that you want for your machine.

QuestionPurchased A School Machine...
Dear industrial sewing machine man:

Recently in our local newspaper I saw an ad for a School Machine that was overstock. I went to the demonstration and the man showed me a Tailor Sewing Machine. He told me that this was made by the Singer Company and that I could get parts anywhere. I have tried in vain to get simple parts for the machine, but all the stores that I have been to have told me that they have never even heard of a Tailor machine. Can you please help me get parts for this machine?

Thanks,
Debbie
AnswerDear Debbie,

I am sorry to say that you may have been taken advantage of. There is no such company as the Tailor Company, per say. There is a company in Poland who produces sewing machines. They are very inexpensive machines. There is a fellow in NJ who has bought up a large quantity of these machines and put on his own name: Tailor. The only way he sells these is by going across the country and advertising in hotel locations that these machines are worth well over $600.00. If you let us know what parts you need for the machine, we could possibly cross-reference it and try to get it for you. Please let me know I can help you any further.
